Create bottom-line type-only department and feature templates.

Remember to print and bring with you to crit next Tuesday (10.4).

OBJECTIVES

We want to see the depth and breadth of your type exploration and choices for both templates. This means taking the time to experiment with many different typefaces—serifs, sans, slab, script, hand-lettering, etc. Keep in mind that your type choices need to make sense for your magazine and audience, not just look good.

PARTICULARS (UPDATED 10.1)

• use no more than three typeface combinations per template

• aim for two typefaces per template, especially feature

• try to use the third typeface for department rubric

• bring all printouts from previous week to next class

• define magazine size/dimensions

• use 9x12 column grid

• use type only (no imagery or grey boxes)

• experiment with many type combinations (at least 20 per template)

• keep track of typefaces used

• post your work/process to your blog
