Finish everything you have designed so far.
And print them to size in color.
And bound the final magazine.
Your final bound magazine should have these elements:
- cover wrap
- contents spread
- 3 department spreads
- 3 features (opener and jump spreads)
- end spread
Before you print the whole thing out to nice paper. Make sure every thing's in place. Here are a few keynotes to follow through:
- Make sure your headline, byline and rubrics are working well together and following the same formula throughout your departments. And pay attention to the folio lines, you don't want them to compete with your rubric or any other element on your page. To be on the safe side print layouts to size and see. Same tip goes for the text type. Make sure your text is falling below the hang line in your departments.
- Make sure your text type is not falling heavily on your pages. If so, one way of solving it is to take the opacity down a little.
- Every image gets a caption, go through all your images in your magazine and add their captions. Captions are often a variation of the text type--generally a smaller size in bold or italics, or occasionally small caps.
- Credit lines identify the person responsible for the photographs or illustrations used in your layouts. They always run in the same location on the page or spread. Credit lines often run in small caps or caps lower case at 5 or 6 points. Typeface should be a variation of the text face.
- Kern all the headlines and the logo of the magazine.
