First Assignment - Type Specimen and Magazine topic

Next weeks assignment is to determine your magazine topic and design a type specimen out of typefaces you find appropriate for your magazines subject matter.

Regarding your magazines:
1) choose a topic for your magazine.
2) identify the target audience:

• age group (make it a narrow one)
• income level
• education level (some school/high school graduate/some college/2 yrs college/4yrs college/postgraduate)
• geographic locale (urban/suburban/rural)
• gender

4) Swipe type and layout ideas that show the style you're planning for your mag. It is best to use your own imagery (illustration, photo) or you may check out flickr.com.
5) Post everything on your blog, and print and bring to class.

Regarding the type specimen book:
1) Pick 15 typefaces:
3 serif display
3 sans serif display
3 serif text
3 sans serif text
3 odd/decorative typefaces
2) Design a David Berlow style type specimen book. Print to size,bound and bring to class. Here is the link to the David Berlow specimen pdf.

*DO NOT UPLOAD ALL THE FONTS ON THE LIBRARY TO YOUR COMPUTER. Store them and only upload those you need. Otherwise, you will crash your hard drives.
